About Fichtner Travels
Preparation builds freedom.
Practical guides for people taking their first independent trips — focused on preparation, transportation, budgeting, safety and the confidence to handle what happens along the way.
Fichtner Travels creates practical guides for people taking their first independent trips. The goal isn't to tell readers exactly where they must go or create an encyclopedia of every hotel, hostel and attraction.
The goal is to help travelers make better decisions. Fichtner Travels focuses on preparation, transportation, budgeting, safety, confidence and the everyday realities that determine whether a trip feels freeing or overwhelming.
Founder and author Kevin Fichtner first travelled and worked in Europe at 19 and returned numerous times independently throughout his twenties. His perspective was later broadened by watching his daughter undertake her own solo European trip at 24.
Those experiences helped shape the guiding philosophy: independent travel should feel adventurous. It doesn't have to feel unprepared.
What we believe about travel
Preparation over improvisation
The best travel experiences come from being ready — not from winging it and hoping for the best.
Practical over aspirational
Real decisions, realistic budgets, and honest information about what travel actually involves.
Confidence through knowledge
Understanding what to expect — and how to handle the unexpected — is what makes independent travel feel freeing.
